As any good advisor knows, running a business comes with some of the toughest challenges most people will ever face. Yet in spite of this, expert business strategist and consultant, Cat (Catherine) Matson, maintains that it is the best game on the planet.

Experienced in both running her own businesses and consulting to many successful small organisations, Cat is a strong advocate of integrating the juggle of demands between business and our personal lives.  She has a strong personal development background and believes that the wellbeing of a business leader is critical to the viability of their business.

Aside from their own specialist areas, small business owners often feel they have to be everything from receptionist to IT manager, book-keeper to marketing director.  Cat works with small business owners and managers, helping them to move through business challenges and understand how best to use available resources.  She specialises in being her clients 'Brand Advocate', supporting them to execute the details of their strategy while enabling them to focus on what they do best in the business.  With practical experience and knowledge in small business marketing (including the latest online and social media trends), sales, streamlined systems and personal effectiveness, Cat has a unique ability to hold together the often disparate parts of business.

Knowing first hand what it means to be in business is important and, through her experience, Cat has developed a knack for simplifying the complicated. Her solid business skills, experience and training expertise ideally position her to support small business owners with the challenges, opportunities and adventures they face.

Cat’s successful consulting experience ranges from the nuts and bolts of business such as HR, administration and operational processes to the less tangible aspects such as motivation and company culture. She has achieved exceptional results in helping clients to develop effective teams and profitable operations without losing sight of the human aspect of their business. Cat is as comfortable advising on high level strategy issues as she is on the critical aspects of a successful business such as attaining, training and retaining employees to creating the right corporate culture and work environment.

In addition to her comprehensive experience, Cat holds a Masters of Business Administration with specialisations in Strategic Planning, Entrepreneurship and Marketing. She also holds a Diploma in Small Business Management, a Diploma in Training and Development and a Practitioner’s Certificate in Neuro-Linguistic Programming.

Cat’s is also a strong supporter of her local and wider business communities; she is currently the President of the Samford Chamber of Commerce and has recently completed a stint on the Steering Committee to establish a community (Bendigo) Bank in Samford.  In the past, she has held the positions of Vice-President of the Brisbane North Chamber of Commerce, inaugural Committee Co-ordinator for the Brisbane branch of the Australian Business Women's Network, Australia's leading networking and business education organisation for women and the Co-ordinator role for the women’s networking group, ‘The Hub’ (a chapter of the Brisbane North Chamber of Commerce).  Cat has also been a committee member of the Brisbane Executive Club (the alumni association of the Brisbane Graduate School of Business, QUT) and has facilitated the Strategic Planning Sessions for both that group and the QUT Alumni Board. She has also presented at QUT Continuing Professional Education conferences.  Cat has worked with the Queensland Department of State Development and Innovation, and has acted as facilitator and coach two years running for The Hub Business Women's Coaching Program.
